Sara Gonzalez Saavedra

Sara González Saavedra was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain).  She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music with Honours and graduated from the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) with Distinction.  She recently completed her studies at the National Opera Studio (NOS), London.

Sara González Saavedra has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of Spain Award, Cabildo of Gran Canaria Scholarship, AIE Award, Alvargonzalez Foundation, Charles Pitt and Patrick Libby Award.  She received the Silk Street Award and she was a GSMD Gold Medal finalist.

Sara González Saavedra has participated in courses and masterclasses with Susan Bullock, Ana Luisa Chova, Elizabeth Connell, Christian Curnyn, Graham Johnson, Emma Kirby, Keith Lewis, Mhairi Lawson, Felicity Lott, Nico van der Meer, Rosalind Plowright, Jennifer Smith, Christopher Soekler, Roger Vignoles and Judy  Weins.

Sara González Saavedra’s operatic roles include Dardané La Rencontre Imprevue (Gluck), Caroline The King Goes Forth to France (Sallinen) and Fyokla The Marriage (Martinů) all at the GSMD, Mamma Lucia Cavalleria Rusticana at the Barbican Hall and in Cesena, Italy, and Zia Principessa Suor Angelica at Cadogan Hall.  Her repertoire also includes Dido Dido and Aeneas, Charlotte Werther, Dritte Dame Die Zauberflöte, Arnalta L’incoronazione di Poppea and Abenchara La hija del cielo (Juan Jose Falcon Sanabria).  Whilst at the NOS she performed in workshops and concerts with Opera North, and an Opera Gala at Cadogan Hall.

On the concert platform her repertoire includes Verdi Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria, Mozart Coronation Mass, Cherubini Missa Solemnis, Handel Messiah, Rossini Petite Messe Solenelle and Bach St John Passion.  Her wide solo repertoire includes El Amor Brujo, which she performed at St John Smith Square, Manuel de Falla’s Siete Canciones Populares and Mahler’s Rückert Lieder which she performed at London’s Barbican Hall.

Sara González Saavedra’s recent engagements have included the Sorceress Dido and Aeneas at Opera de Dijon under Jonathan Cohen, Marcellina La nozze di Figaro in Granada and Bianca The Rape of Lucretia in London.  She recently sang Mrs Grose Turn of the Screw and Erda Das Rheingold.
