John Lofthouse
Originally from Levens in the Lake District, John Lofthouse graduated from Durham University with a degree in Theology and subsequently studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio.
John Lofthouse performs regularly for Opera Holland Park where his roles have included Marullo Rigoletto, Morales Carmen, Il sacristano Tosca, John Styx Orpheus in the Underworld and Vicomte Cascada The Merry Widow.
Other operatic engagements have included Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte for Grange Park Opera, Demetrius A Midsummer Night's Dream for British Youth Opera, Pirate King The Pirates of Penzance for Buxton Festival, Fiuta La capricciosa corretta for Bampton Classical Opera and Chef Bake for One Hour for English National Opera - Baylis programme.
John Lofthouse’s repertoire also includes Ford The Merry Wives of Windsor, Danilo The Merry Widow, Papageno The Magic Flute, Eisenstein and Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, Imeneo Imeneo (Handel), Dancairo Carmen, and Chao Sun A Night at the Chinese Opera.
John Lofthouse has a busy concert diary and recent oratorio performances include Mendelssohn Elijah, Handel Judas Maccabaeus, Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Bach St. John Passion, Britten War Requiem. Vaughan Williams Mystical Songs and Schumann’s Dichterliebe. He has sung recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall in Songbook, St. John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, National Portrait Gallery, the Pump Room in Bath as well as opera favourites on an exercise bike in Trafalgar Square as part of London's cycle campaign!
John Lofthouse’s recent performances have included Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia, Dancairo/Morales Carmen, High Commissioner Madam Butterfly, Mr Bluff The Impresario and Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast.
For English National Opera John Lofthouse recently covered the roles of Bormenthal A Dog’s Heart and Tadeusz The Passenger.
