Amanda Forbes

Born in Germany, Amanda Forbes studied voice at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. She holds a BMus with First Class honours from The University of Melbourne, Australia. Her major awards include winner of the Australian National Operatic Aria Competition, recipient of the Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Vocal Scholarship, and winner of the Richard Lewis/Jean Shanks Award from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM).

At the RAM her roles included Sandrina La finta giardiniera, La Fée Cendrillon and Soprano Actress A Night at the Chinese Opera.

Amanda Forbes made her professional operatic debut as a member of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus after which she was invited to perform as a soloist with Scottish Opera in their Essential Scottish Opera Tour in 2008.  She worked with Opera North covering the role of Mimi for their double season of La Boheme and the title role in The Merry Widow.

Operatic roles currently in her repertoire include Micaela, Mimi, Pamina, Gulietta, Donna Anna, Gilda and Violetta.

Amanda Forbes has a busy concert diary and her repertoire includes Messiah, Carmina Burana, Handel’s Nelson Mass, Poulenc’s Gloria, Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate, Vivaldi’s Nulla in Mundo and Scarlatti’s Su le sponde del tebro and Bachs Christmas Oratorio.

Amanda Forbes returned to Scottish Opera as Clorinda La cenerentola at the Edinburgh International Festival, and has since sung Papagena The Magic Flute for English National Opera, Sophie Der Rosenkavalier in concert with Nicholas Braithwaite and Gilda Rigoletto for Clonter Opera. She performed the role of Johanna in the Italian premiere of Sweeney Todd - a Teatro Communale di Bologna production with performances in Bologna, Modena, Lugo and Piacenza.
