Alison Kettlewell

Alison Kettlewell graduated in drama before studying singing at the Royal Northern College of Music and on the Opera Course at London’s Royal College of Music.  She was a winner of the AsLiCo Young European Opera Singers’ Competition and a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

Alison Kettlewell’s roles include Charlotte Werther, Suzuki Madama Butterfly, Dorabella Cosi fan tutte and The Secretary The Consul, all for Opera Holland Park, and Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly and Mercedes Carmen for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall.  Her other performances include Donna Elvira Don Giovanni in Como, Pisa and Lucca;, Diamantina  L’Isola di Merlino at Cremona, Mantova and Brescia;  Dorisbe Gustavo il re di Svezia (Galuppi) at the Montepulciano Festival,  Diana La Calisto at Batignano Festival,  Ramise Arminio (Handel) at London Handel Festival, and Lucilla La scala di seta at the Wexford Festival. 

In concert Alison Kettlewell has sung the roles of Delilah Samson and Delilah at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea and Dangeville Adriana Lecouvreur with the Chelsea Opera Group. Her repertoire also includes Romeo I Capuleti e i Montecchi; Rosina Il barbieri di Siviglia, Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Bessie in Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Judith Bluebeard’s Castle, Marguerite The Damnation of Faust and Fricka Die Walküre

Alison Kettlewell’s contemporary roles have included Mother in the world premiere of The Juniper Tree  by Roderick Watkins for Almeida Opera and Munich Biennale, and Servant  in Param Vir’s Ion for Opera du Rhin and Music Theatre Wales in Strasbourg and Berlin and at the Linbury Studio Theatre.  She sang the role of Giraffe for ENO Baylis’s Early Earth Operas .

Alison Kettlewell’s concert repertoire ranges from the Bach Passions to Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius and the Verdi Requiem.  She sang Mary in Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ with the Northern Sinfonia and has also performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, and OSJ (formerly the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square).  She has sung in London’s Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall and in Symphony Hall, Birmingham and has also been heard in a live broadcast on Radio 3's "In Tune".

Alison Kettlewell recently sang Siegrune Die Walküre in concert with the Hallé Orchestra under Mark Elder and Matilda and George Cautionary Tales for Opera North.  Future engagements include Waltraute Götterdämmerung with Longborough Festival Opera.

Alison Kettlewell
