SERGIO LA STELLA
Sergio La Stella made his professional conducting début at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in Manon Lescaut, and his international début with La traviata and Aida in the Marinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. Other international engagements have included Maria Stuarda and Manon Lescaut for the Royal Opera in Stockholm, La cenerentola, Maria Stuarda and I Capuleti e i Montecchi for Grange Park Opera, Turandot in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, engagements with the Taiwanese Philharmonic and the Württembergische Philharmonie, and a tour of Switzerland with Ruggero Raimondi and the Reutlingen Philharmonic Orchestra. In Italy Sergio La Stella’s conducting engagements have included productions at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Politeama in Lecce and at the Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria, summer tours of Tosca, La Boheme, La traviata, Rigoletto and Madama Butterfly as well as broadcasts of opera and film music on national television and radio. Orchestras with whom he has broadcast include the RAI Orchestra, the City Orchestra of Verona, the Rome Sinfonietta and the Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra of Milan. Sergio La Stella’s operatic repertoire also includes Adriana Lecouvreur, Lucia di Lammermoor, L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, Le Vedova Allegra (The Merry Widow), Die Zauberflöte, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Paisiello), I due Foscari, Il trovatore, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci and Carmen. As a ballet conductor Sergio La Stella’s performances have included Swan Lake, Giselle, Nutcracker, Don Quichotte, Romeo and Juliet, Coppélia and ‘Georg Trakl e la sorella Grete - rivelazione e declino’ a programme of short ballets choreographed and staged by Beppe Menegatti at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma to settings of Trakl texts by a number of Twentieth Century composers. Sergio La Stella also enjoys a career as a recitalist, both as a solo pianist and with such distinguished artists as Renato Bruson, Fiorenza Cossotto, Mauro Maur, Andrea Noferini, Ruggero Raimondi, Katia Ricciarelli and Jennifer Smith. He has broadcast both on television and radio in Italy in recital, chamber music, and accompanying operatic highlights. He has recorded for BMG and Musikstrasse.
