JOHN LOFTHOUSE
Originally from Levens in the Lake District, John Lofthouse graduated from Durham University with a degree in Theology and subsequently studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio.

John Lofthouse’s operatic roles include Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream (British Youth Opera), Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte (Grange Park Opera), Chef Bake for One Hour (English National Opera - Baylis programme), Pirate King The Pirates of Penzance (Buxton Festival), Vicomte Cascada The Merry Widow and The Sacrastan Tosca (Opera Holland Park) and Fiuta La capricciosa corretta (Bampton Classical Opera). Other operatic roles in his repertoire are Ford The Merry Wives of Windsor, Danilo The Merry Widow, Papageno The Magic Flute, Eisenstein and Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, Imeneo Imeneo (Handel), Dancairo Carmen, and Chao Sun A Night at the Chinese Opera.

John Lofthouse has a busy concert diary and recent oratorio performances include Mendelssohn Elijah, Handel Judas Maccabaeus, Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Bach St. John Passion, Britten War Requiem. Vaughan Williams Mystical Songs and Schumann’s Dichterliebe. He has sung recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall in Songbook, St. John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, National Portrait Gallery, Pump Room in Bath and opera favourites on an exercise bike in Trafalgar Square as part of London’s cycle campaign!

John Lofthouse’s recent performances have included Sacristan Tosca for Opera Holland Park (later revived at Richmond Theatre), further performances the title role in Imeneo, Dancairo/Morales Carmen, High Commissioner Madam Butterfly, Mr Bluff The Impresario and Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem and Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast.

John Lofthouse’s appeared as Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia and John Styx Orpheus and the Underworld at Opera Holland Park where he will return this season to perform the role of Morales Carmen.
