EMMA CARRINGTON
Emma Carrington studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where she sang the roles of La Zia Principessa Suor Angelica, Mother Goose The Rake’s Progress and Florinda Into the Woods. Other RNCM performances included excerpts from the roles of Carmen Carmen, Meg Falstaff, La Reine Hamlet (Thomas) and Charlotte Werther. She then continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music on the Opera Programme and took part in Master Classes with Sally Burgess and Anne Murray.
While studying at RAM Emma Carrington appeared as Marcellina Le nozze di Figaro conducted by Sir Colin Davis, Masha Paradise Moscow (Shostakovich), Bianca The Rape of Lucretia , Martha Iolanta (Tchaikovsky) and in Dardanus by Rameau. Excerpts performed included Musetta La Boheme (Leoncavello), Mistress Quickly Falstaff, Isolde Der Sternguker (Lehar), Suzy La Rondine and Tisbe La Cenerentola. Other RAO tableaux included scenes from Parsifal (Kundry), Handel’s Radamisto (Radamisto) and Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges (Maman). Emma Carrington was a finalist in the Opera Rara Bel Canto competition 2008 and was grateful to be supported by a Susan Chilcott Scholarship. Emma Carrington has a busy concert diary and her repertoire includes Monteverdi Vespers, Handel Messiah, Stravinsky Symphony of Psalms, Bach Christmas Cantata, Mendelssohn Elijah and Walpurgisnacht, Haydn Nelson Mass, Vivaldi Gloria and Schubert Mass in E flat. She was a soloist in Tippett’s spirituals from A Child of Our Time at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and took part in Janacek’s Diary of One Who Disappeared at the Wigmore Hall. Emma Carrington appeared as Clorinda Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (Monteverdi) and performed in Handel’s Amadigi at the Batignano Festival. While still at RAM Emma Carrington completed her first season with Opera Holland Park and appeared as Third Lady The Magic Flute with British Youth Opera who invited her back to perform the role of Older Woman in Flight by Jonathan Dove. Other engagements have included Diana/Giove in Cavalli’s La Calisto RAM, Mistress Quickly Falstaff Grange Park Opera and Pimlico Opera, Feklusha Katya Kabanova for Opera Holland Park, the Kabanicha Katya Kabanova for Scottish Opera on Tour and Miss Baggot Let’s Make an Opera in Aldeburgh. Future engagements include the cover of The Third Nymph Rusalka for Opera North and Alticiara Francesca da Rimini at Opera Holland Park. This biography is for information only.
