KATARINA JOVANOVIC
Katarina Jovanovic was born in Belgrade and is currently resident in Paris. She won first prize and the Audience Prize at The Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition and was a finalist in the Placido Domingo OPERALIA Competition in Washington. She has twice been nominated for the prestigious French music award “Victoires de la Musique”.

Katarina Jovanovic holds an MA in Vocal Arts from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and is a graduate of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has participated in masterclasses with Christoph Eschenbach, Håkan Hågegard, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Malcolm Martineau, Thomas Quasthoff, Rudolf Piernay at the Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia Festival, and with Graham Johnson and the “Song Makers Almanac” in London.

She commenced her operatic career singing the title roles in Mozart’s Bastien et Bastienne and Puccini’s Suor Angelica as well as Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and Falla’s El Trujaman at the Rex Theatre in Belgrade. At the National Theatre, Belgrade she has appeared as Violetta La traviata, Marguerite Faust. She has also performed Donna Anna Don Giovanni, Contessa Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro, Tatyana Eugene Onegin, Leonora Il Trovatore and Amelia Un ballo in maschera. In the UK Katarina Jovanovic’s operatic engagements have included Violetta La traviata for Grange Park Opera and at Opera Holland Park she has appeared as Lina Stiffelio, Mimi La Bohème, Maddalena Andrea Chenier and Leonora Il Trovatore.

Katarina Jovanovic has a considerable concert repertoire including Janáček Glagolitic Mass (Orchestre Nationale de Lille under Jean-Claude Casadesus), Berlioz Les Nuits d’Eté, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Verdi Requiem, Messiaen’s Poemes pour Mi (Orchestre de Lorraine under Jacques Mercier), Strauss Vier Letzte Lieder, Dvořák Requiem and Stabat Mater with Orchestre d’Avignon.

Katarina Jovanovic possesses a wide art song repertoire. She has appeared in recital at many venues across Europe including the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Salle Gaveau, Ravinia Festival, Catedrale d’Algorta in Bilbao, Festival Narciso Yepes, Flaneries Musicales d’Eté de Reims, MIDEM-Cannes, Felicja Blumental Festival-Tel Aviv, Belgrade Music Festival, Festival de Torroela de Montgri and Festival de Perigord Noir, and in Toulouse, Avignon, Clermont Ferrand, Limoges, Montpellier, Aigues Mortes, Cannes, Rennes, and Lille.

Katarina Jovanovic’s television appearances have included an international ARTE production of “Stars von Morgen” introduced by Montserrat Caballé, and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater for Spanish RTVE. She has also recorded several recitals in Paris, Reims and Cannes with Bruno Fontaine, Ysaye Quartet and Jerome Ducros for the French MEZZO Television.

Her CD of German lieder with Bruno Fontaine, for the Transart Live label, was nominated by MEZZO Television as one of the best recordings of the year. Other recordings include Glagolitic Mass with Thomas Rösner and the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra.

Last season she sang Sulamith by Jan van Gilse with RTVE Symphony Orchestra under David Porcelijn in Madrid, Glagolitic Mass in Dublin with the RTE Orchestra under Adreas Delfs, Bizet’s Clovis et Clothilde and Te deum with Orchestre National de Lille under Jean-Claude Casadesus in Lille and Reims which was also recorded for the Naxos label, to be released shortly.

Recent engagements include a concert of Handel arias with Christian Curnyn for BEMUS Festival in Belgrade. Future engagements include recitals in Paris, Nice, Toulon and for Festival de Colmar.
